3. DMV NEWS – GET A REAL ID NOW
With cooler weather, falling leaves and anticipation building for Thanksgiving, now is the perfect time to upgrade to a REAL ID before the May 7, 2025, federal enforcement deadline arrives. This is when a REAL ID or another federally approved document will be required to fly within the U.S. or enter secure federal facilities. By applying for your REAL ID now, you can help avoid heartburn at the airport should you fly to see loved ones in 2025.
To apply for a REAL ID, Californians should visit REALID.dmv.ca.gov, fill out the online application and upload their documents. Customers must visit a DMV office and bring their uploaded documents to complete the application. By starting the process online, it should take only about 15 minutes in the office.
4. CONVERSATIONS WITH VETERANS
Each year around Veterans Day, Congressman Ted Lieu brings together 6 to 8 veterans to join him in an event where the veterans tell a story about something they experienced while serving.
We hope that community members will join us in showing their support and appreciate to our local veterans by attending this virtual event. Please register to get the Zoom link.

5. THANKSGIVING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
For over 40 years, Westside Thanksgiving Dinner has hosted a free Thanksgiving celebration, offering a sit-down dinner, additional food supplies, clothing, live music, and more. Thousands join us each year to give thanks, share blessings, and celebrate together—all for free!
We’ll be back again this year at the West Los Angeles Civic Center on Thanksgiving Day – November 28. And there are many ways you can help us prepare, starting right now! From collecting food items or doing a clothing drive, to spreading the word to guests or supporters. We also need plenty of help on Thanskgiving Day or the Wednesday before.
We are completely volunteer-driven, and ALL are welcomed to be a part of this grand celebration!

LA Balloon Museum
Now through March 16, 2025
in the Downtown Arts District
Giant inflatable sculptures tower around museum visitors, thrusting them into memories of childhoods drenched in whimsy and bright colors. The interactive pieces of art in each different room encourage guests to leave burdens at the door and become a kid again. From a massive ball pit designed to immerse guests in cosmic wonder to brightly colored inflatable characters symbolizing an all-seeing otherworldly tribe, each exhibit at the newly opened pop up showcases the unique practice of inflatable and balloon art.
This fun pop-up museum with works by 21 artists is located at the Ace Mission Studios at 1601 E. 6th St. It’s open now through March 16, 2025.
Guests who want to bring a piece of the museum home are also in luck, as a team of talented balloon artists traveling with the show are prepared to make unique sculptures on the fly for people to bring home. Just like classic balloon animals at kids’ parties, guests can pick different shapes for the artists to create, including different flowers, dogs and other fun things.
