6.  UCLA BOTANICAL GARDEN NEWSLETTER

Dear Garden Friends,

We want to thank our summer visitors who joined us for our successful Third Thursday evening program with music and wine bar. I enjoyed meeting our neighbors and members of our campus community. I look forward to see more of you at the free public festival, Fall Fest, on Saturday, October 19 from noon-4pm.

As we start the new academic year, we are reaching out for volunteers to help us with our public tours and K-12 school visits. Please consider joining our community of passionate volunteers. Sign up for our volunteer orientation on September 23 from 11am-12pm or contact our Manager of Outreach and Education, Chantal Ochoa-Clark.

For those of you considering refreshing your home gardens, please join Assistant Director and Horticulturalist Allison Keeney at our plant propagation workshop on October 5 from 11am-12pm.

Finally, I am excited to share the good news that the Garden received a $250,000 award from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) to develop a strategic collections plan for adding more species to the Garden. The Garden’s Herbarium Curator, Dr. Anthony Baniaga, and Science Advisor, Dr. Felipe Zapata, are working with me to lead the study.

See you in the Garden!
