1.  HWPOA’S JULY 4th EVENT – MORE THANK YOU’S

THANK YOU
from the HWPOA Board of Directors

Congratulations to Caron Schwartz, to her team and to our July 4th Sponsors!  Another wonderful July 4th in Holmby Westwood!  On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank you for your determination and hard work in making the morning a total success.

Special thanks to ACS Security (Platinum Sponsor) for preparing the “Holmby” dogs and refreshments!  It was beautifully prepared and lots of servers from Hamburger Patty’s gave up their holiday morning to support us!

SSA Security (Gold Sponsor) donated funds for the “activities on the lawn” including games, face painting and the kid’s art table.  Lots of fun and excitement emanating from this area in the park!

To Jim Bremner, Mark Rogo, Caron Schwartz, Michael Simmons and Larry Young – Wow!!  a huge thank you!!!  Residents, if you are planning to sell your house or buy another, these are the go-to agents/brokers who support us year after year!!  They donate for our kids and our families – the rentals, jumpers, and more!  They care a lot about our community!

Our wonderful neighbors, Jason Somers and Kramer and Courtney LaPlante want to be a part of the Holmby 4th and make possible our red, white and blue decor of balloons that decorate our parade route and the arch at the finish line at Holmby Park.  Thank you so much!!!

Who kept our thirst in check?  Our only Westwood Village department store, Target!  Hundreds of bottles of water and every last one of them was consumed at our picnic! Thank you, Target!!

Splatterz! Studio in Westwood Village has art projects for families year round!

Thank you to HW’s Green Team, Marnie Bodek, Chair. and Assistant, James Bancroft for the info they made available to residents regarding parkway trees and tree plan approval and general info.  Thanks to the team, 75 trees have already been planted.

To Dana Glenn, Office Manager for Holmby Westwood POA, who worked closely with Caron, Event Chair, to produce a wonderful parade and picnic, free to our residents.  Dana is often referred to as co-chair of the event because of the help and expertise she provides not only on the 4th but throughout the year!  Thank you!

To Phil Gabriel, our patriotic leader of the parade and our Music Man, engineer, driver, announcer, and all around helper – thank you!!!

Finally, we could not do this without our volunteers – Chin Chin Beckett, Betty Kabaker, Shawn Beckett, Maddie Glenn, Segal Walter, Anais Armstrong, Natasha Sharone, Tim Gosselin, Sheila Lawrence, Richard Rushfield, Ni Dai, Margaret Orenstein, Ellen Turner, Sandy Brown. Breen Frazier, Judy Chasalow, Emily Glenn, and Makhmal Farhadian, Our first responders at Fire Station #71, WLAPD officers, and LA Dept. of Transportation who are there for our Holmby Westwood neighborhood 24/7.  Great job and a huge thank you!

Til next year, think about offering to help or sponsor in 2025!  Have a great summer!!

2.  LAPD REPORT – BURGLARS POSING AS CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

From the Santa Monica Mirror:

In collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau, North Hollywood Division burglary detectives arrested members of the so-called “Reflector Vest Crew” on June 27 and July 3, 2024. The crew earned their nickname for using reflective clothing typical of construction workers to blend in and scout potential burglary targets without arousing suspicion.

The suspects, 39-year-old Roderick Dennis of Los Angeles, 21-year-old Michael Mitchell of Ontario, and 21-year-old Munya Jones of Los Angeles, targeted residences in affluent areas such as Studio City, West Los Angeles, and West Hollywood. The suspects would send one person, dressed in reflective clothing, to knock on doors to check if anyone was home. If the residence appeared unoccupied, the rest of the crew would break in, usually through the rear entrance.

3.  FRONTIER COPPER CABLE

A resident reported that she received a call from Frontier informing her that they are disconnecting the cables and moving the phone line to fiber optics.

We are not sure what areas have been affected but if you still use a landline, please be aware of the potential changes to service.

4.  SSA SECURITY UPDATE

For customers of SSA Security:

SSA Security Services will be adding a second patrol car in Holmby Westwood from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM within the next couple of days in addition to the 24/7 dedicated SSA patrol car we already have.

SSA is actively recruiting more retired and off duty police as well as military police. As soon as more officers are hired, the new dedicated car will patrol 24/7as well.

5.  BIG BLUE BUS SERVICE CHANGES NEAR UCLA

BBB Bus Service to Change:

Santa Monica City Council ratified BBB’s Brighter Blue plan to improve bus service throughout Santa Monica and West LA, including in and around the UCLA campus. Though it will take place over a 5 year period, one planned change is to close the Hilgard/Strathmore bus terminus.  New stops will include Parking Structure 2 at Westholme as well as Westwood Blvd. within the campus.

We will keep you informed as more details become available.
