1.  HWPOA’S JULY 4th EVENT – THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to our residents and sponsors!!!

Our annual July 4th event was a festive and fantastic celebration! See the pics below—it was a ton of fun!  Please send your business to our main sponsors, as they dedicated their time and donated funds and products that ensured our event was a huge success with food and activities for all!

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS:

UCLA returned as our Platinum sponsor, leading the parade with the UCLA Mobile, providing festive music and entertaining the kids with games, art projects and face-painting.  Thank you, UCLA for your support of HWPOA and for your presence, efforts and enthusiasm!

ACS Security has been feeding us for many years. Their sponsorship of catering company Rosie’s Kitchen kept the crowd happy and well fed.  The hot dogs were delicious!

Our local realtors deserve our appreciation for their generous sponsorship. Their contributions covered all the kids activities, including the bouncers, games, crafts and rentals.  We are truly appreciative of their support of HWPOA!

Splatterz! Studio in Westwood Village is a new sponsor who generously provided “art-rageous” craft projects for kids and adults.  Thank you for the patriotic liberty crowns!

Neighbors Jason Somers and Kramer and Courtney LaPlante kindly donated funds for the balloons that were given out to the kids in the parade.  We are “blown away” by your generosity!

Target Westwood generously donated hundreds of water bottles to keep the crowd hydrated on a hot summer day.  Thank you!

The firefighters from Fire Station #71 were outstanding and so gracious as they led the parade to the park. We also really appreciate our LAPD team and the Dept. of Transportation who assisted with traffic control to keep neighbors safe during the parade.

The work of our talented photographers, Maddie Glenn and Aidan Venckus, was much appreciated in capturing all the quality moments of the event.

The HWPOA volunteers made a great team with the tireless help of Sandy Brown and Dana Glenn.  Thanks to Dawn Eash, Tanaz Danialifar, Phil Gabriel, Jessica Weisblum, Judy Chasalow, Betty Kabaker and all the other event-day volunteers!

And last but not least, thank you to
Caron Schwartz
Event Chairperson

A huge thank you to Caron for the spectacular July 4th Parade and Picnic!! Caron led the team in organizing the event and her efforts paid off with a hugely successful July 4th!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

2.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING – CANCELED

This month’s HWPOA Board meeting has been canceled.  Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 8.

Updated information will be posted at the beginning of August.

3.  SECURITY CONCERNS – CLARIFICATION

Clarification to last week’s Security Concerns:
SSA requests that their customers ask their monitoring company to contact the security guard in the patrol car first before trying to reach the customer. This saves precious response time. The general protocol for monitoring companies is to contact homeowners first, so sometimes in response to an alarm, monitoring companies may not see the homeowner’s preference to have the patrol guard contacted first. Moore Protection’s only protocol is to contact the guard first.  Please note:  Moore Protection is one of several companies who contact SSA first (prior to the resident) but, as was stated, not all companies subscribe to this protocol.

Please check with your monitoring company to ensure that contacts are in place so that, in the event of your alarm being activated, your patrol unit will be the first to be notified by your monitoring company.

Please note, HWPOA is not associated with SSA Security or Moore Protection in any way and does not endorse or recommend any security company.

5.  FRONTIER INTERNET SERVICE

Several homeowners have expressed concern with Frontier internet service.  They have experienced numerous service outages with Frontier.

HWPOA is gathering comments from homeowners to see which service they utilize (DSL or fiber) as well as where and how often outages have occurred.  If you would like to share your experience (positive or negative), please email hwpoa@aol.com.  Thank you!

6.  SICK SEA LIONS & DOLPHINS – CAUTION & HELP NEEDED

Harmful algae bloom is making marine wildlife sick. Sea lions and dolphins are stranding along jetties and some of our most popular beaches. The Aquarium of the Pacific and the Marine Mammal Care Center are seeking help to rapidly provide sick animals with medical care and places to rest and recover.

Volunteers are needed to help spot strandings, educate beachgoers, and help keep these animals and the public safe. If you’re willing to help, please visit https://bttr.im/7wq16 to start the process.

If you see a sick or injured animal, please call 1-800-39-WHALE. Please do not approach the animal.

Together, let’s ensure the well-being of these incredible creatures.

7.  UCLA BOTANICAL GARDEN NEWSLETTER

Dear Garden Friends,

If you’ve visited the Garden in the past two weeks, you may have noticed some changes! Construction has begun on the Garden’s stream. The project has required us to fence off portions of the Garden, but this 9-month water sustainability project will allow us to install a more conscientious stream and irrigation system. The new system will deliver water to our plants efficiently and create a more beautiful stream.

Don’t worry, there’s still so much to explore! Check out a map of open Garden paths at the bottom of this email. The Desert Garden gate is now open. Enter directly into our enchanting desert collection via Hilgard and Manning. Don’t miss the Chironia baccifera. It is in bloom near the Tiverton Entrance by the Hawaii section while you are meandering about.

I am happy to mention that we have some exciting summer programs! Click the link below to learn more about upcoming events like our family friendly ‘Be a Naturalist Day’ and a not-to-be-missed After Hours in the Garden. Interested in learning more about California’s Urban Forest? Get tickets to a special lecture from Dr. Matt Ritter.

We’ll see you in the Garden soon!
