1.  COVID UPDATES – BOOSTER SHOTS & PROOF OF VACCINATION

SECOND BOOSTER SHOTS
The CDC has expanded eligibility for a second booster shot for adults age 50+ as early as four months after their first booster shot of any COVID-19 vaccine.

LA County vaccination clinics are now offering 2nd booster doses to residents 50+. Visit http://VaccinateLACounty.com for assistance & more info.

For information about booster shot eligbiliy, please click here:

PROOF OF VACCINATION
California is no longer requiring people to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result to attend large indoor events like concerts and sports games.

While the state has dropped the requirement as of Friday, verification of full vaccination and pre-entry negative test results are still strongly recommended by the state at indoor “mega” events with more than 1,000 attendees.

Holmby Westwood Property Owners Association

The HWPOA Board is seeking Holmby Westwood residents to volunteer to serve as a Director for 1 year. We ask only that you be a financially current member of the Association for the past 2 years and have an interest in maintaining and improving the quality of life we have all come to know and enjoy.  The election of the Board of Directors will take place in May.

You will have an extremely worthwhile experience while giving back to our community.  HWPOA is a highly respected association throughout the city and, with your involvement, we hope that will continue indefinitely.

We usually meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Our meetings have been on Zoom in recent years (due to COVID) but we are transitioning back to in-person meetings, which will be held at Belmont Village (on Wilshire at Warner Ave.).

We encourage all Board members to join one of our committees, which include: Security, Green Team, Westwood Village, Traffic, Holmby Park, Architectural Supervising Committee, 4th of July event, Filming (in the neighborhood), Membership, LAPD liaison and more.

Please contact Dana Glenn, our Office Manager, and let her know that you want to join our Board. Send an email to hwpoa@aol.com or call (310) 470-1785 to contact Dana. The deadline for submissions is April 11. We look forward to hearing from you!!

3.  HOLMBY WESTWOOD GREEN TEAM UPDATE

TREE OF THE MONTH – FRUITLESS OLIVE

The Fruitless Olive is the Green Team’s latest Tree of the Month profile.  Look for this tree species on Manning Avenue between Hilgard and Malcolm Avenue. It is a new addition to the Holmby Westwood parkway tree palette and was planted in 2019 by the Green Team in partnership with TreePeople and City Plants.  The profile information is primarily drawn from the STS Publication “Street Trees Recommended for Southern California” and the Selectree Cal Poly website.

Special thanks to Cassandra Franklin, Kathryn Welch Howe, Cage Hall, and Allyson Bunting for writing and designing the Tree of the Month Profiles.

6.  UCLA DANCE MARATHON

Dear UCLA Neighbors,

The UCLA Pediatric HIV/AIDS Dance Marathon is scheduled to take place this Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to Sunday, April 3, 12 a.m. After a virtual hiatus these past two years, this important fundraising event will once again be held in person and on campus. The event is expected to draw about 1,000 dance participants and supporters.

Due to an abundance of caution, the event will be held outdoors at Drake Stadium this year. Sound checks will take place on Friday, April 1, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in preparation for Saturday’s event. We anticipate amplified sound and appropriate measures have been taken to mitigate the sound impact to our neighbors. It is our intent to be a “good neighbor” and monitor sound throughout the event.

The Pediatric AIDS Coalition first began as Dance Marathon at UCLA in 2002.  Since its inception, Dance Marathon has grown from 20 committee members raising $27,000 to a committee of 150 planning an event that has raised over $5.5 million in its 20 year history. Funds raised will support the group’s beneficiaries, which include the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, The Laurel Foundation, and the UCLA AIDS Institute.

Should you have any questions about this event, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Best,
UCLA Community & Local Government Relations

7.  CLOTHING DONATIONS NEEDED

LA Sanitation & Environment’s City Facilities Recycling Program (CFRP) are collecting new and gently-used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing until April 29.  Donated clothing will be provided to the St. Francis Center, the Downtown Women’s Center and LASAN’s Livability Services Division, which are organizations that benefit Angelenos in need. The drive specifically seeks sweaters, jackets, shirts, pants, and socks.

Westsiders can drop off these items at the West LA District Yard (2027 Stoner Avenue) Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.
