1.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING – VIDEO CONFERENCE

On Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 PM, the HWPOA Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting.  Due to social distancing recommendations, the meeting will be a video-conference held online via Zoom.  Please click here to see the agenda.

2.  UPDATED MASKING GUIDANCE

From LA County Public Health:

Effective Friday, March 4, 2022, indoor masking at most public settings will be strongly recommended, but not required, for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Masks are required in schools & childcare facilities until March 12 when they become strongly recommended.

Masks are still required in certain areas, strongly recommended indoors, & required for those in isolation/quarantine and who exit early through the day 10 period. People can still wear masks in indoor/outdoor settings if they choose to.

3.  METRO WORK – WILSHIRE LANE CLOSURES

As Metro continues work on the Purple Line for the Westwood/UCLA Station, Wilshire Blvd. between Veteran and Westwood Blvd. will be re-striped and concrete “k-rail” barriers will be placed to protect the public outside of the work zones.

Traffic reconfiguration and re-striping (Stage 1) will take place next weekend.  Once the lanes have been re-striped, construction activities and lane reductions (Stage 2) will continue through May 14.

Traffic Reconfiguration (Stage 1):

  • DATES/TIMES – 9:00 PM on Friday, March 11 through 6:00 AM on Monday, March 14
  • Wilshire Bl will be restriped, and protective concrete barriers will be placed around the construction work zone.
  • Wilshire Bl will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Veteran Av to Westwood Bl
  • Left hand turns may be restricted during this reconfiguration work.

Piling Work (Stage 2): 

  • DATES – March 11 to May 14, 2022
  • HOURS – 9pm to 9am for Pile Drilling and Setting Activities; 9am to 9pm for Preparation and Maintenance Work.
  • Wilshire Bl will be reduced to three (3) lanes in each direction between Westwood Bl and Veteran Av.
  • Left-hand turns will be available for eastbound Wilshire Bl traffic at Veteran Av, Westwood Bl, and Glendon Av.
  • Intermittent restrictions for left hand turns for eastbound Wilshire Bl traffic at Gayley Av.
  • Southbound Gayley Av will be reduced to one lane traffic.
  • No left hand turns or U-turns available for westbound Lindbrook Av traffic.
  • Additional lane reductions will be required from 11pm to 6am each night.

4.  BLOOD DONATIONS NEEDED

The American Red Cross and UCLA Health are asking for blood donations as they continue to face a national blood emergency.

5.  COMMUNITY POLICE ACADEMY

The Community Police Academy offers an exposure and orientation to a variety of police concepts and operations within the Los Angeles Police Department. This eleven-week course will be held as a hybrid in-person or virtual option.  The class will meet every Tuesday evening from March 29 through June 7, 2022.

It is our mission after the eleven-week Academy, each participant will feel more connected to our Department and everything we have to offer. Through the Community Police Academy, enrolled students will be encouraged to build a lasting partnership with the Department.

6.  HIGH SCHOOL / COLLEGE SUMMER APPRENTICESHIP

Diversity and Inclusion Apprenticeship (DAIA)
12-Week Paid Apprenticeship

The DAIA summer program exposes students who reflect the diversity of our communities to library careers. Potential candidates will be enthusiastic about public service, computer proficient, comfortable giving presentations, and capable of accomplishing goals and meeting deadlines.

Candidates must me 18 years of age by June 6, 2022.  Please see flyer below for additional details.

UCLA Fowler Museum
Open Wednesday through Sunday, 12-5 PM

The Fowler Museum at UCLA explores global arts and cultures with an emphasis on Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Indigenous Americas—past and present.  Current exhibitions and programs include:

  • Gosette Lubondo: Imaginary Trip – Congolese photographer Gosette Lubondo’s Imaginary Trip series probes the intersections of memory and architecture, examining tensions between residual colonial constructs and contemporary life in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • ‘How Do You See This World?’: The Art of Almighty God‘How Do You See This World?’ is a retrospective of paintings by the prolific Ghanaian artist Kwame Akoto (b. 1950).
