2.  HOLMBY WESTWOOD GREEN TEAM UPDATE

INTRODUCING GREEN TEAM TREE OF THE MONTH

The Green Team is delighted to introduce our first Tree of the Month Profile featuring the Coast Live Oak. Each month we will share a new profile of one tree species in our neighborhood.  Besides the tree’s botanic name, provenance and description, the profiles will indicate if the tree is drought and pest tolerant, its’ potential for root damage, a fun fact about the species and where you can find the tree in our neighborhood.

The profile information is primarily drawn from the STS Publication “Street Trees Recommended for Southern California” and the Selectree Cal Poly website.

Special thanks to Cassandra Franklin, Kathryn Welch Howe, Cage Hall, and Allyson Bunting for writing and designing the Tree of the Month Profiles.

5.  WESTSIDE PAVILION – THE NEW GOOGLE CAMPUS

Some residents have asked what was being developed at the old Westside Pavilion.  The info below was made available by the Westside Urban Forum for an upcoming meeting.  I found it very informative.
–Sandy Brown

One Westside – The New Google Campus

One Westside is a 584,000 square foot creative office campus in the heart of West LA that has been fully pre-leased by Google. Developed by Hudson Pacific in a joint venture with Macerich, the adaptive reuse project transforms the former inward-facing Westside Pavilion mall to an expansive, natural light-filled space with high ceilings, vast floorplans, plentiful skylights and a multi-level atrium.

The soon-to-be LEED Gold certified project has on-site solar panels and a seamless indoor-outdoor environment enabled by exterior terraces, patios and a rooftop garden deck with amenity space. By reusing the mall’s former steel structure, the project’s embodied carbon footprint is approximately 33% lower than if the campus had been built from scratch.

The project also was associated with the Vibrant Cities Arts Grant program, a first-of-its-kind initiative that redirected Private Arts Development Fees directly to artists, resulting in more than $650,000 in direct grants to LA-based artists–mostly artists of color, female and LGBTQ+ artists–who were suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic.

One Westside is set to be delivered to Google for tenant improvements in the first quarter of next year.

7.  TINY HOMES FOR VETERANS – PLEASE DONATE

Village for Vets recently provided 25 tiny shelters for homeless veterans on the West LA VA campus (GLAVAHS) with support from GHC Housing Partners, and Change Reaction. We are currently seeking donations to provide an additional 40 or more tiny shelters. These shelters provide an elevated standard of living from tent encampments while veterans are on their journey to find permanent housing and stability.

Each tiny shelter cost $10,000 which includes the shelter itself as well as maintenance and repairs. Consider donating today!
