2. CURBING SPEEDING IN WEST LA
From Councilmember Paul Koretz:
Paid for by a community traffic mitigation fund, LADOT has begun rolling out speed feedback signs at the direction of Councilmember Koretz. These dynamic speed feedback signs are part of a multi-pronged mitigation strategy to reduce a rash of speeding that has plagued the district over the past year.
Signs are being placed in areas where we have seen some of the most severe traffic accidents — on Wilshire Blvd. (in the Westwood area); Olympic Blvd. (west of Century City); and Beverly Glen Blvd. (north of Santa Monica Blvd.)
Thank you to the Department of Transportation for partnering with us in selecting the best locations and going the extra mile to expedite the rollout for the safety of our community.
3. VACCINATED STUDENTS – FREE UCLA FOOTBALL TICKETS
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) announced Thursday that middle and high school students that are vaccinated against COVID-19 can receive free tickets to a UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl.
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has partnered with Public Health to give away free tickets to a UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl to middle or high school students in L.A. County who’ve received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while tickets last.
Students aged 12 to 18 who’ve received at least one dose can sign up for the free tickets online by visiting the website.

4. LAUSD & METRO PARTNERSHIP – FREE TRANSIT FOR STUDENTS
Los Angeles Unified School District and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) are announcing a game-changing partnership to offer TK-12 students unlimited rides from October 1, 2021, through June 30, 2023, at no cost to families.
Under the proposal passed unanimously by both the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education and Metro Board of Directors at their respective board meetings on September 14 and 23, Los Angeles Unified will invest approximately $1.4 million per year for the next two years (cost sharing of $3 per student per year) to participate in Metro’s Fareless System Initiative Phase 1 plan.
Metro will provide every TK-12 student in Los Angeles Unified with a TAP card that can be used for free transit on all Metro-operated transportation, as well as several adjoining municipally operated transportation providers, including, to date, Culver City, Norwalk, Downtown Area Short Hop (DASH), Montebello, and Santa Monica. Los Angeles Unified will distribute TK-12 TAP cards to students, help promote the program to students and families, and support families with the registration and replacement processes.
5. LOS ANGELES PUBLIC LIBRARY – SURVEY
The Los Angeles Public Library is conducting a survey to better understand how the library meets patron needs, and how Angelenos feel about the library as a welcoming and safe place.
Please take this 3-minute survey here: https://www.lapl.org/survey
6. UCLA CHILD CARE – SPACE AVAILABLE
UCLA Early Care and Education has openings at the Krieger Center for members of the community (who need not be UCLA affiliates). In particular, they are encouraging new applications from UCLA-Affiliated and Community (Non-Affiliated) families with 3- and 4-year-olds. Sibling priority for a younger child may apply if a family enrolls an older child (space permitting).
The UCLA Krieger daycare is located near Bellagio and Sunset.

7. WESTWOOD CONNECT DAY
From Councilmember Paul Koretz:
Connect Day is a community event that brings service providers, community partners, governmental agencies, and dedicated volunteers together so that individuals experiencing homelessness can be connected to an array of services simultaneously.
A special thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who were able to attend and help make the Westwood Connect Day possible along with our community partners who offered housing resources, legal assistance, medical services, hygiene kits, showers, haircuts, clothing donations, and both breakfast and lunch.
Click here for a short video montage of the event and the some of the services that were provided.

Expect new street art, striking architecture, activities for all ages, delicious things to eat, and a few special birthday surprises!
Reminder: wear a helmet when you’re riding a bike, skateboard, or skates – and if you’re under 18, it’s the law. The CHP booth at our Mariachi Plaza Hub will be giving out free helmets to anyone under 18, while supplies last.
