2.  L.A. COUNTY – WHAT’S OPEN

Earlier this week, LA County announced a new Health Officer Order that allows for the resumption of faith-based services, in-store shopping at low-risk retail stores, drive-in movies and other recreational activities.

This does NOT yet include personal services like hair salons, nail salons, and barbershops. It also does NOT yet allow for dine-in services at restaurants.

LA County’s Department of Public Health has prepared a helpful list of what’s open (or not) in LA County.  Click link below:

What’s Open in LA County

Note – Physical distancing requirements, cloth face coverings and other safety protocols must be observed.

3.  WEAR A FACE COVERING – PLEASE!

The most important way to make sure things continue to improve is for everyone to strictly adhere to the City’s face covering rules when they leave their homes and will be near other people. It is the single most important barrier to aid in the fight against COVID-19. Wearing a mask is even more important as retail and business restrictions are gradually eased.

The future of our collective health and well-being is up to all of us. Stay safe, stay home as much as possible, and wear your mask when you leave your home.

Sincerely,
City Councilmember Paul Koretz

5.  RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS

Neighborhood residents have sent us the following restaurant recommendations for takeout and delivery. If you would like to recommend a local restaurant, please send your comments to hwpoa@aol.com.

  • La Bruschetta – Family owned, delicious Italian fare and reasonably priced.
  • Westwood Thai Cafe – Large menu.  Food is tasty with large portions.  Not as hot as real Thai but good and inexpensive.
  • Toranj Restaurant on Lindbrook – Mediterranean.  As good as any Persian restaurant in the area. Inexpensive.
  • House of Meatballs on Gayley – Great tofu balls in marinara and Spaghetti Bolognese. Caesar salad is good too.

6.  THE YMCA NEEDS YOUR HELP

Dear HW Neighbors,

With this unprecedented health crisis, the YMCA (located on Westgate at Uni Hi School) has been “forced to pivot in ways in which we have not planned.”  Since its’ mission is to help others, they are providing showers, towels, food, water, clothing and other necessities to the most vulnerable neighbors.  They have asked for both financial help for administrative costs to maintain the program, as well as the continued purchase of items.  Our HWPOA Board of Directors recently voted to contribute $500. as part of our yearly charitable donations to the YMCA for use during this pandemic.  Comstock Hills HOA also contributed the same and Westwood HOA will be asking board members to join in.

I have attached both letters received from the Y in the event that you or your family would like to help.

If you have questions, please contact us at hwpoa@aol.com or (310) 470-1785.

Thank you.  Please stay safe, wear a mask, and continue to social distance.

Sandy Brown, HWPOA President
