2. TOP TIPS FOR SAFE HOLIDAY SHOPPING
With the holidays – and holiday shopping – in full swing, it’s important to pay extra attention because this is when scammers thrive.
Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer has created a list of Top Tips for Safe Holiday Shopping. The list includes information about shopping online, phishing, gift card precautions, identity theft, porch pirates, charity scams and more:

3. ILLEGAL FIREWORKS IN HWPOA
A homeowner reported that on Saturday, November 24 around 11:00pm, she heard several loud explosions near the corner of Loring and Holmby. It was discovered that the noises were fireworks set off at a nearby home.
All fireworks, including the so-called “safe and sane” variety of fireworks, are are illegal in the City of Los Angeles. Please keep our community safe and do not set off any kind of fireworks. Thank you.
4. NEW NAMES FOR METRO RAIL AND BUS LINES
Metro staff are recommending changing the names of Metro Rail and Bus Rapid Transit Lines to colors with letters to accommodate a growing system and make our rail and bus rapid transit network easier to understand.
Metro’s current transit line naming convention is inconsistent, and the system is growing and changing. All current line names are based on colors (Blue, Red, Gold, Purple, etc.) with one exception – the Expo Line. As the system grows, continuing with color names will mean selecting line names based on shades of color (i.e. Lime, Rose, Aqua, Olive, Lavender, etc.) rather than basic colors. This can pose visual and language barriers and can sometimes be difficult to decipher on maps and signage.

5. HOMELESS COUNT – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
You can now register for the 2019 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, which will take place January 22-24. We need more than 8,000 volunteers to canvass more than 80 cities and 200 communities across Los Angeles County. By participating in the Homeless Count, you will help us better understand homelessness in our region and direct resources where they’re needed most.
To register, please go to https://www.theycountwillyou.org/
6. MOVIE PREMIERE – STREET CLOSURES
Warner Bros. will be holding the Premiere of “The Mule”, at 7:30 PM on Monday, December 10th, 2018 at the Regency Village Theater, located at 961 Broxton Avenue in Westwood Village.
There will be various sidewalk and street closures around the area of Broxton Avenue between Weyburn Avenue and Le Conte Avenue.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of these events, feel free to contact Talia Shnaider at 310-742-1064 or 818-926-8319.
7. TEEN SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
If you know teens looking to acquire real-world skills and make an impact in the Jewish community — and earn a paycheck — they have just over one month left to apply to The Jewish Federation’s Community Internship Program!
This paid internship is open to current high school sophomores and juniors and runs from June 14-July 12, 2019. It affords teens the opportunity to hone their professional and leadership skills, contribute to organizations that support and strengthen our community, and gain valuable insight from knowledgeable and experienced mentors — all while they learn about the breadth of our Jewish community.
Applications are due Friday, January 18, 2019. Limited spots are available, and letters of recommendation are required.

GROUP FOR PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC LUNG CONDITION
I host a meeting every other month for people with chronic lung conditions (non-tuberculous mycobacterial lung conditions, also known as bronchiectasis or MAC) other than TB or cancer. It’s a very informal support and information group, free of charge, which has been ongoing for about 15 years. The meetings bring together people who all share a common health problem, so we can feel completely comfortable talking about our lung issues in a warm, supportive environment. Each of us has a history of diagnosis, treatment, and day-to-day experience that is very helpful for answering our questions and getting the benefit of people’s personal experience. Even with the best of doctors, this is an invaluable service.
We are affiliated with a national non-profit organization, NTM Info & Research (NTMir), formed on behalf of patients with pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease for the purpose of patient support, medical education, and research. The organization comprises patients, physicians and other medical practitioners, and researchers.
Our group is open to all and the next meeting will be on Monday, December 17, at 1:15 p.m., at my house, 641 Warner Avenue, in Westwood.
Please feel free to contact me for more information. I look forward to speaking with you and meeting you!
