1. LAPD CRIME REPORT
A resident reported that an unlocked car was broken into on the 10700 block of Lindbrook Dr. Friday night. They went through everything but nothing was taken.

HOME INVASION ON LINDBROOK
On 12/30/17, at 4:30 am, the resident was in the living room watching television when they observed a male, white, 6′, 250 lbs, in his 50’s, standing in the kitchen going through a purse on the countertop. The resident hid and called police. The suspect was gone on arrival. The Investigation revealed that the suspect had entered through one of several unsecured/unlocked side doors in the kitchen area of the home. The suspect went through a purse that was visibly and sitting on a countertop. After removing money from the purse, the suspect fled from the location.
RIDE SHARING & BURGLARIES
Do you use Uber, Lyft or other services to go to the airport? It may be possible, as yet unverified, that ride share drivers could be sharing passenger information with potential burglars. This information may include which of their passengers left with suitcases to the airport or talked about going out of town and for how long; as well as from what address. Please be advised not to share your trip information with the driver. In fact, implying that you have a family member staying home or house-sitting may not be a bad move.

3. WESTWOOD VILLAGE POST OFFICE – NOW OPEN
Earlier this week was the first day of business for full retail services at the Village Post Office. Well, almost. Due to a computer problem, they could not sell stamps. We are not sure if this problem has been fixed. The post office is located at:

Retail hours have not yet been posted but are presumably typical hours for other post offices. We will confirm more details when we receive them.
4. SHOP LOCAL – WESTWOOD VILLAGE
We want to encourage neighbors to Shop Local. Westwood Village has many new businesses and outstanding old favorites in the Village. We encourage you to try them and thought we would help by spotlighting who’s there and what they are doing. We welcome you to send us your own hot tip on what is a “must do” in Westwood Village.
One of the newest shops is the Ministry of Coffee, the coffee and espresso bar created by ex-pat Aussies, just south of Trader Joe’s. Their famous flat-white, espresso and simple but satisfying lunch items, and charming service are drawing folks from all over the Westside. If you haven’t yet tried it, go in for a g’day cup of coffee and enjoy yourselves in a comfortable and casual space.
5. NATIONAL BLOOD SHORTAGE – DONATIONS NEEDED
The American Red Cross Greater Los Angeles Region put out an emergency call Monday for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to help address a nationwide winter blood donation shortage.

Severe winter weather has had a tremendous impact on blood donations. More than 150 blood drives have already been canceled in January due to snowstorms and frigid temperatures, causing more than 5,500 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected, the Red Cross reported. Further adding to the diminishing supply, holiday schedules, winter weather and an active cold and flu season collectively contributed to more than 28,000 fewer donations than what was needed in November and December.
Eligible individuals are urged to schedule a blood or platelet donation by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling (800) 733-2767. Donors can help even more people by inviting a family member, friend or co-worker to donate, too.
6. UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS
Paderewski and World Politics Lecture – Saturday, January 13, at 3:00 PM at the Palms-Rancho Branch of the LA Public Library (2920 Overland Ave.) Those of you who have attended the Los Angeles Musical Salon Dinner-Concerts over the past ten years are sure to recall Marek Zebrowski, pianist, composer and audience member, who has graced many of our events with his talent, charm and great knowledge. Marek is giving a fascinating, FREE, lecture with plenty of visuals about virtuoso pianist (the “rock star” of his era) Ignacy Jan Paderewski and his less-known role in early 20th century world politics.
Car Seat Safety Event – Sunday, January 21 at Century West Car Wash (9500 Pico Blvd.). Assemblymember Richard Bloom and City Councilmember Paul Koretz are hosting a car seat safety event to have your child safety seat inspected by certified technicians representing the California Highway Patrol. This free event is open to all ages and will include Child ID Kits with fingerprints and a photograph – one of the most important tools used by authorities to aid in the recovery of a missing person. 7. GREATER L.A. HOMELESS COUNT – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
All across Los Angeles every January, we embark on a three-day mission to count our homeless neighbors. The Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count enables us to gather important data that is key for us to bring about an end to homelessness in Los Angeles.
