1. HWPOA BOARD MEETING
On Tuesday, January 10 at 8:00 PM, the HWPOA Board of Directors will hold its monthly meeting at Belmont Village, 10475 Wilshire Blvd. Please click here to see the agenda.

2. CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
Dear Friends,
Wondering what you should do with your Christmas tree after the holiday? Don’t just throw it out, recycle it. LA Sanitation has CURBSIDE collection for Christmas trees.
Dried-out trees are a dangerous fire hazard and should not be left in the home or placed outside. For curbside collection, if you live in a single-family home, remove all decorations, tinsel, and stands. Cut the tree in half and place it in your LA City Sanitation green clippings container. If you live in a multifamily building, please place your tree curbside on regular collection days.
Trees will be recycled and turned into compost and mulch.
To drop off your tree at a fire station through mid-January, visit:
FIRE STATION #71
107 S. Beverly Glen Boulevard, 90024 – Holmby Hills/Bel-Air
(310) 575-8571
Also, you can go to one of two mulching facilities, weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
- Lopez Canyon Environmental and Education Center
- Harbor District Yard
For more information about the City of Los Angeles 2016 Christmas Tree Recycling Program, please visit LA Sanitation’s website or call 1-800-773-2489. Thank you for helping to keep our neighborhoods clean and safe.
Sincerely,
PAUL KORETZ
Councilmember, 5th District
3. RAIN IN THE FORECAST – TURN OFF YOUR SPRINKLERS
This is a reminder for residents to turn off their sprinklers and outdoor irrigation temporarily while it is raining and while the ground remains wet. Although we are still in a drought and rain is still less than normal, we are currently expecting rain several times during next two weeks. Over-watering during periods of rain risks damage to lawns and plantings. Take advantage of the current rainfall to save on your water bill and turn off the sprinklers for the next few weeks.

4. DOG WASTE BAGS – PLEASE RESPECT YOUR NEIGHBORS
This is a courtesy reminder to everyone who walk their dogs in the neighborhood…
Many people are doing a great job of cleaning up their pet’s waste but PLEASE DO NOT throw your pet’s waste bag away in a neighbor’s trash bin that is empty out on the street waiting to be taken in. Others do not appreciate the smell of your pet’s waste in their trash bins.
One homeowner recently had to empty the rain water out of her bin and then deal with an untied bag of waste. While we all appreciate everyone who cleans up after their dogs, we ask that you please throw away the waste bags in your own trash bins.
Thank you. Let’s keep this neighborhood great!

GROUP FOR PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC LUNG CONDITION
I host a meeting every other month for people with chronic lung conditions other than TB or cancer. It’s a very informal support and information group, free of charge, that has been ongoing for about 15 years.
We are affiliated with a national non-profit organization, NTM Info & Research (NTMir), formed on behalf of patients with pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease for the purpose of patient support, medical education, and research. The organization comprises patients, physicians and other medical practitioners, and researchers.
Our group is open to all and the next meeting will be on Monday, January 23, at 1:15 p.m. at my house, 641 Warner Avenue, in Westwood.
In addition, on February 14, we have a special opportunity to hear Dr. Ed Chan, Professor of Medicine-Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, during his visit to Southern California. This meeting will also take place at my house at 1:15.
Dr. Chan was born in Rangoon, Burma, and emigrated with his family to the U.S. in 1967. He grew up in Colorado and received his medical degree from Columbia University followed by an internship and residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and a fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at University of Colorado Hospital. He was active duty in the United States Air Force Medical Corp for four years and presently is a pulmonologist at the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center, National Jewish Health, and University Hospital of the University of Colorado, Denver. His clinical and research interests are in tuberculosis and NTM lung disease and he has authored and co-authored numerous articles about mycobacterial lung disease.
Please feel free to contact me for more information. I look forward to speaking with you and meeting you!
