2. WESTWOOD LIBRARY EVENTS
There are a number of great events coming up this month at the Westwood Branch Library:
Used Book Sale – Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10:30-3:30. Come and purchase some wonderful books for family and friends! We have a great collection of Coffee Table books, Children Books and DVD’s. We’ll also be selling bookplates to add to the collection of our Library books. It’s a great way to increase your personal library while raising money for your public library.
Movie Night (“Elf”) – Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 5:15 PM. Come enjoy a fun movie night, bring a friend and just relax. “Elf” stars Will Ferrell as “Buddy the Elf” in this holiday classic.
Free Concert (Fiato String Quartet) – Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2:30 PM. Join us for the final concert in the 2015 Season of our popular free Concert Series @ Westwood Library! The Library’s Quartet in Residence, the Fiato String Quartet, will present two engaging string quartets, along with some holiday music:
- Ives – String Quartet No. 1 (“From the Salvation Army”)
- Mendelssohn – String Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, no. 1 (dedicated to the Crown Prince of Sweden)

3. CAR BREAK-IN
A resident on Le Conte Ave. reported that sometime last night and before 7 am this morning, someone opened her unlocked car and rifled through the console. Nothing of value was in the car- nothing of value taken. Please take appropriate precautions with your own cars and property –it is important for us to be vigilant- especially this time of year.
4. WEST L.A. VA – COMMENTS ON MASTER PLAN
This is the last call for comments before the VA submission of the Final Draft Master Plan. We need your help to ensure all voices are heard! The comment period ends December 7th.
Read the plan and provide your feedback here.
At the end of the public comment period, the VA will review the comments received, post summary responses into the Federal Register via a second notice, ready the Preliminary Draft Final Master Plan for environmental and historic preservation due diligence, and prepare a Final Master Plan for the VA West Los Angeles Campus.
5. MOVIE SCREENING – STREET CLOSURES
On Thursday, December 10th 2015, Awesomeness TV will be holding a screening of “The Tyler Oakley Documentary” at the Regency Bruin Theater, located at 948 Broxton Avenue, at 7:30 PM.
Beginning at approximately 10:00 AM on the day of the event and ending at midnight, there will be various sidewalk and street closures around the area of Broxton Avenue between Weyburn Avenue and Le Conte Avenue.
6. “SPARK OF LOVE” TOY DRIVE
ABC7 and Southern California Firefighters are celebrating the 23rd year of the “Spark of Love Toy Drive.” Over the past two decades, the “Spark of Love Toy Drive” has successfully collected more than 9 million toys for underserved children and teens. With love and support of donors and sponsors, kids across Southern California receive a new toy each holiday season.
Drop off a new, unwrapped toy or sports equipment at any local fire station. Firefighters will collect the gifts and distribute them to underserved children in our local communities.
