1.  LAPD EVENT – COFFEE WITH DETECTIVES

2.  HOLIDAY PACKAGE SAFETY

What comes after Black Friday and Cyber Monday? “Package Theft Wednesday”, the biggest day of the year for package thieves.  With the holiday season there are more packages and thieves who want to take advantage of the ripe pickings.

It is never safe to leave packages by your front door. Please have packages delivered with “signature required” or have them delivered to another location (such as a business office) where it can be handed to a person directly.  We also suggest following these simple tips…

DO

  • Check your email alerts to know when packages have arrived and have someone bring them into the house as soon as possible.
  • If no one is around to receive packages, have them delivered to a safer location, like a workplace or a Smart Locker.
  • Check delivery dates to make sure packages don’t arrive when you’re away. If this can’t be avoided, have a friend or neighbor hold them for you.

DON’T

  • Leave packages out all day or overnight.
  • Leave outgoing mail in your mailbox, especially any bills with checks.
  • Thieves are getting more creative and some will arrive at your door with a food delivery bag, leaving with your belongings when they see no one is home. Be on the lookout for suspicious activity.

3.  METRO PURPLE LINE UPDATE

We made it! During the last community meeting for 2019, Metro Construction Relations provided construction updates for the Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital Stations.

  • Construction activities for the Westwood/UCLA Station includes advance utility relocation and end-wall piling.
  • Activities for the Westwood/VA Hospital Station includes an update on the Southern California Edision electrical system upgrades to power the tunnel boring machines.

40 Years of UCLA Student Filmmaking – November 15 to December 15  at the Billy Wilder Theater.  In celebration of UCLA’s centennial, UCLA Film & Television Archive turns the spotlight on the university’s history of student filmmaking. Since the late-1940s, generations of students at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television have consistently demonstrated an eagerness to explore genre and form (animation, documentary, experimental and narrative), frequently with a vested interest in contemporary cultural politics. This retrospective focuses on the first four decades of student filmmaking at UCLA, drawing from the Archive’s collection of over 1,500 vintage student works.  Click here for more information.
